Woman Has 1 Week To Help 125 Children
Los Gatos, CA August 6, 2004 -- Susan Wigley has one week to help 125 children she doesn't even know. Susan, the new chair of the Social Action Committee at Congregation Shir Hadash is tasked with completing a fund-raiser of school supplies for 125 children located at 3 shelters by August 13. "It's a daunting task" she says, shaking her head. "We only have 30 backpacks full of school supplies so far. You don't want to let any child down and send them to school without supplies. Our annual Backpacks For Children In Need Drive is in danger of failing this year."
Susan and her committee can offer tax-donation receipts for any school supplies or money dontated to the program. They are requesting any of the following items be donated to Congregation Shir Hadash in any quantity in order to assist children in need: Backpacks, Safety scissors, Notebooks, Pencils, Pens, Erasers, Marking Pens, Crayons, Paper - white and colored, Stickers, Paste or glue sticks, Folders, Art Supplies, Calculators and any other school supplies, toys or games for children 16 years or less. "We are in terrible need for backpacks and calculators" Susan said. "We have contacted over 70 businesses and are hoping for a strong response."
The backpacks will be distributed the week of August 16 to the children at various shelters.
Donations can be sent to:
